Good afternoon my name is Patsy Whitaker and I'm the principal at Jacksonville Middle School. Welcome to our weekly Campus Connection update. During this time we will be giving you information pertaining to the upcoming events at Jacksonville Middle School as well as any other pertinent information pertaining to our campus. So let's get started. Next week at a glance at Jacksonville Middle School. May 4th we will have our last online learning information and packet available for you in paper format as well as online format. Those students who have a question that this information be emailed to them should be receiving this information no later than next Wednesday. Also next week we have opportunities for those who have not picked up popcorn or picked up athletic gear to come up and do that as well as the science club members who participated in the candy sale fundraiser. Monday from 9 to noon students can come up and pick up athletic gear. From 9 to noon Miss Murphy's Art students may also come up and pick up portfolios. 9 to 3 p.m. popcorn pick up is available. 9 to 3 turning in Science fund money is available raising money is available and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Mrs. Blankenship will be available to take up any items that had not been turned in pertaining to choir. Also on Wednesday of next week, Miss Murphy will also be available from 9 to noon for students who have not picked up art portfolios at this time. And as always on Fridays, our new academic vocabulary will be posted on our Facebook page. As a reminder for those who come to campus, please remember that we are still adhering to our safety guidelines. If you come to campus, please remain in your vehicle and a staff member will come out to assist you as soon as possible. As our week ends we finished up our Second Home Learning packet information and are ready to start our last Home Learning packet. I just wanted to review with you very quickly and briefly how the expectations for those home learning assignments. Again teachers have created new Choice boards for each content area. Our counselors, Ms. Bowen and Ms. Yarnell have also created some great and new information for you. Again students need to choose two assignments a week for each of the core areas. They choose two assignments for each elective board. Two elective assignments through each week and then anything that you are turning in please make sure that you have your name on it your teacher's name your academic team and they should also be included on all the assignments. Completed assignment should be returned to your teacher if you're turning it in electronically. If you come to campus and you're turning in a paper to campus you know we have a box outside which you can put your assignments in. Completed assignments again need to be turned in by the method of using your email or Remind or returning to the paper box on campus. When we are through with our grading period, which ends on May 28th, you should have completed 12 assignments for each core area and 12 elective assignments at the end of the grading period. Just a quick review on the grading assignments. All assignments turned in will have a numerical grade assigned to that assignment. Teachers again will keep a record of the numerical grade earned for all the assignments. The average of the 12 grades will be entered into the Skyward Gradebook for the T4 grading period. If this average of the grades will improve the student's semester average it will be added numerically into the gradebook. If the average of the grades does not improve the student's semester average the current T3 grade will be recorded in the Skyward gradebook for the T4 grading period. From April 27th through May 28th, feedback for your assignments will be recorded in the following manner in the gradebook. So if you go in parents and you're looking for feedback on assignments that your students turned in you will see a "C" for "Completed" assignment that was turned in and an "I" for an assignment that was not completed or not turned in. At the end of each week each student will have three letter grades in their Skyward gradebook. The official T4  grades will not be posted until the first week of June. Finishing up on today's campus connection I would like to just ask an FYI for Jacksonville Middle School. We do have students who had signed up to go on the Washington D. C. trip. Of course that trip has been canceled and Dr. Kelly is contact or is in contact with the travel company as far as working to make sure all students receive a full refund. I will will update you as soon as I get more information on that subject. Again on the Science fund raiser, if you are unable to come to campus on Monday to turn in your money you may mail that information, no cash please, you may mail a money order or a check to Jacksonville Middle School PO Box 631 Jacksonville, Texas We have had lots of library books turned in and that's great. Thank you guys for taking care of that. Any books can be returned at any of the four campuses. You don't have to return if you're a Middle School student, you don't have to bring it to the Middle School. We have four receptacles throughout the District. There's one here at our campus there's one at East Side. There's one at Nichols and there's also one at Joe Wright. Again those receptacles are out 24/7 for those items can be returned at any time. We are please asking that we get all our books back before May 15th will give our teachers time to get our books checked in. Again your teachers are here for you and just a reminder, I think Dr. Kelly mentioned in his speech, that teachers are available for you Monday through Friday from 8 to 3. You may contact them through email, Remind, or your preferred method of communication. They will get back to you as soon as possible. Paper packets were mailed home yesterday which was the 30th of April. Also be looking at our JISD website it is time to begin the re-enrollment process for our currently enrolled students. That process will begin on Sunday. There should be a video posted for anyone with with instructions on how to re-enroll your student. Middle school secretaries will be available on Monday and Wednesday of this week for parents who need to call and maybe get information so that they can finish their re-enrollment process. Or address any questions that need to be addressed during that time. Thank you guys for doing everything you've done to make sure you keep learning and that is our big big thing that we don't want you to fall behind. We know here throughout the year you've heard your teachers talking constantly about not going back and not going back is still our goal no matter what the learning environment looks like. We want to make sure that you're successful and you're prepared for learning and being successful and having the opportunity to do that as well. I'm going to close now and again this is familiar to my JMS tribe. I try to do a read aloud on Friday. I always finish with the expectations of our campus is always to ............. And if you guys can finish it and you know the expectation is that we are always going to work hard, we are going to be kind, and we're going to do the right thing.
